AV- Finalize DVD on camcorder without AC power
Some camcorders (such as Hitachi's DZ-HS300A) won't allow you to finalize the
DVD without being plugged into AC power. While this is a good idea to prevent
disc corruption if the battery were to run out during finalization, this doesn't
help anyone who lost their AC adapter cable, or really needs to do a finalization
on the battery alone.
Ensure the battery has enough charge for at least 6min of runtime before proceeding:
Simply cover the other power connection pins with electrical tape to fool the
camera into thinking the battery is the AC adapter. For example, if the battery
has 4 connections as shown below...
- supply negative
D unknown meaning*
T unknown meaning*
+ supply positive
...cover D and T pins with electrical tape, then connect the battery.
You can then finalize the DVD without the AC adapter.
* These connections might exist simply to detect the battery vs. the AC adapter,
to measure the battery cell voltage or temperature, or to aid in charging the
battery cells. They don't seem to be necessary in powering the camcorder.
